Bullpen has been horrid but we knew it would be

After three games KC is 1-2 and while it's true they could be 3-0 it's also true they could be 0-3. The bullpen has surrendered the lead in every game and has just looked terrible. Eight relievers have made appearances thus far and John Parrish is the only one who has yet to surrender a run (0.2 IP, but still). But isn't the season going just as most of us anticipated?

good rotation - check
lousy bullpen - check
struggling offense - check

They are pretty much living down to our lowered expectations. I think people see the bullpen collapse and starting thinking about what might have been's. I don't really see the point in this line of thinking because, while it's exasperating that it happened three games in a row, late game struggles will be a common occurrence in 2010. The Dayton Moore can build a great bullpen myth has not only been busted but also dragged through the streets and tossed in the gutter.

It's too bad the pen has let them down because the rotation has been superb. Greinke, Hochevar, Bannister have combined for a 0.92 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 19.2 innings. For comparisons sake the bullpen in 9.1 innings has a 13.50 ERA and 2.57 WHIP.

3 down, 159 to go. It's already frustrating but at least the 2010 season has begun.
