It really does seem like Yost has failed to pay attention to any of this season because I can't imagine what possessed him to make either of these moves:
- Inserting Tim Collins into a bases loaded situation. A left-handed batter was at the plate so Yost goes to the pen and brings in his lefty. In doing this he ignored two things that are all but impossible to ignore - 1st, Collins has a 6.6 BB/9 so he's not exactly a guy you ever want pitching with the bases loaded anyway and 2nd, left-handed hitters have a .371 OBP against Collins. A walk was the most probable outcome and that's exactly what happened.
- Bringing in Escobar and sending Giavotella to the bench. He made this move knowing full well that Escobar would get a plate appearance and that he'd be unable to pinch hit for him or for Getz since he was fresh out of infielders. So when Moustakas led off the 9th with a single it meant that if the Royals were to tie it then Yost was going to need his middle infielders to come through. Then of course he did that thing he likes to do - he gave away the first out of the inning when Escobar bunted Moustakas to second base. It's likely Giavotella would have been called on to bunt in this situation but who really knows. After Perez flied out the Royals hopes rested on the bat of Getz. Game over. If Escobar hadn't entered the game then Maier could have pinch hit for Getz, KC may have still lost but at least Yost would've given them their best shot at tying the game.
He really needs to quit that.

Yost is an idiot. I agree that "you want to like" Yost but this is getting beyond annoying.
